UpperHill Secondary School lifted their maiden KSSSA National 7s Title on 12th of April after beating the defending Champions Laiser Hill Academy 10-5 at the Shimo La Tewa Secondary School. Upperhill were unbeaten throughout the whole tournament.
”The teams were evenly matched and I expected it to go either way, the boys gave all they had in the tank and pushed themselves to the last whistle, it was sheer hard work and determination” said Thomas walgwe ,Upperhill high School Coach, the 2019 KSSSA 7s Champions.
“The boys were well prepared and psyched up but it was not to be as injuries and a yellow card made it difficult for us to execute our plan against a good side as UpperHill. For us, it’s back to the drawing board, we are very proud of our boys and congratulations to UpperHill” concluded Kevin Atandi, Laiser Hill Academy coach.

St. Peters Mumias High School came in third after edging out Vihiga Boys High School 19-5 in the Bronze match. Agoro Hogh School’s 10-5 win over Muvuti Secondary School saw them finish fifth overall. Menengai High School Nakuru lifted the Challenge Trophy Title as they beat Chianda High School 31-0 while Katwanyaa Secondary School won the 13th place title after beating St. Mary’s 17-5.
The top three teams, Upperhill, Laiser Hill Academy and St. Peters Mumias have secured their slot in the East Africa Secondary School Games taking place in Tanzania come August 2019. Laiser Hill are the East African Rugby Sevens defending Champions.
The KSSSA Rugby 15s final will be played tomorrow at the Shimo La Tewa Secondary School. Finalists, Dagoretti High School and Kakamega High School have already earned their slot. The Alliance High School and Kangaru High School duel is what promises to be the highlight of Rugby finals as both sides battle each other for the third and final slot to the East Africa Secondary School Games.
Upperhill who are the East African defending Champions in the 15s version of the game will not be contention this year.
