The Simbas roared loud and proud in Kitwe Zambia as they beat the hosts 43-23 in a tight encounter in their first 2019 Victoria Cup fixture. The last time the two sides met was 15 years ago at the RFUEA Grounds and The Simbas walked away with a 33-10 win over their guests.
Jacob Ojee landed the first of four Simbas’ tries in the first half that was quickly followed by Andrew Amonde’s brace before Billy Omondi went over the whitewash for the fourth try. All four conversions sailed wide, Simbas holding on to a 20-13 lead at the breather.
In the second half, the hosts landed two tries as the Simbas extended their lead by 23 points through Curtis Lilako, Griffin Musila and Johnstone Mung’au all who crossed the try line. Anthony Odhiambo added eight points off his boot, one conversion and two penalties.
The very experienced Curtis Lilako was named the Man of The Match for his exemplary performance during the encounter which also had him land his first try for the National Team in ten years.
The team now heads to Bulawayo ahead of their clash against Zimbabwe on Saturday 3rd August. The return fixtures for the two matches will take place on 24th August and 21st September respectively.
