On Saturday 24th August 2024 at the RFUEA Grounds, the Strathmore Leos stormed into the Kabeberi 7s cup quarters with a classy top-of-the-table finish. The Leos kicked off their day one action with a 22-17 victory over the log leaders, Kabras RFC, a match that propelled their resilience as they went into match two where they saw off Nakuru with a 24-0 win. With two wins in the bag, they went the extra mile to beat Impala RFC 33-05 in their last Pool match to seal off their top-of-the-Pool A. Joining them in the Cup quarters from this Pool is Kabras who bounced back to their winning ways beating Impala 31-07 and Nakuru 22-12.
Menengai Oilers went on with their usual winning ways on Day one as they beat their opponents; they saw off Stallions 43-0, Kisumu 43-07 before wrapping up their day one action with a 31-07 win over the Catholic Monks. Oilers are joined by Catholic Monks who beat Kisumu 10-0 and Stallions 19-17 but suffered their loss to Oilers.
In Pool C action, with an exception of Kenya Harlequin who easily topped their Pool with three out of three wins, the other three teams lost two games and won one game each bringing their total points to 5 per team (win=3 points and loss=1 point). In such a situation where there’s a three-team tie, the GD is the determinant. KU Blakblad has -15 points, Daystar Falcons had +5 points while Nondies had -17 points, meaning Daystar were through to their first Cup quarterfinal this season.
KCB topped Pool D with convincing wins over MKU Thika beating them 39-0, they beat host Mwamba RFC 29-5 before wrapping up up their day one action with a 26-5 win over MMUST who were the second team to through to the cup quarters.
