The bank signed up as the Club’s main sponsor in December 2016 and was unveiled as the official shirt sponsor in March 2017, appearing on the front and the sleeve of the Mwamba’s shirt for the last season. The partnership has now been extended to run until January 2019.
In the new and improved deal, Mwamba Rugby Club will now be known as Stanbic Mwamba for the duration of the sponsorship.
“This partnership remains a perfect combination of two brands with unrivalled heritage in banking and rugby in Kenya. Mwamba Rugby Club has a very proud heritage in the game and we are delighted to have the opportunity to give them the support to help them back to where they belong – challenging for top honours in the rugby circuits. We are very happy with it and is an extremely cost-effective way of maintaining exposure for brand Stanbic in Kenya,” said Willis Angira, Stanbic Bank Senior Manager, Communications and Events.
The deal is part of a partnership that has extended beyond the shirt sponsorship and will see the two organizations collaborate in promoting community health and well-being as part of corporate social investments using rugby as a vehicle to reach out and educate the public.
As part of the Club’s strategy to bring fans closer to the Club no matter where they are in the world, Mwamba RFC together with the Bank will unveil club merchandise that fans can proudly don and show their support for the club.
“We have enjoyed a fantastic season with Stanbic Bank. We are delighted to announce the extension of our partnership, which demonstrates the belief and continued commitment to the work that we are doing together and the values that we share. The partnership will help us in achieving our set goals as a club and a community,” commented Alvas Onguru, the Honorary President of Mwamba Rugby Club.
Founded in 1977, Mwamba RFC is one of the country’s most iconic and well-known native rugby clubs that has been committed to moving the sport forward by providing a breeding ground for stars for the future. Some of the top Kenya Sevens stars like Collins Injera and Humphrey Kayange who are both legends in World Rugby Sevens are both products of Mwamba RFC.
