Trailing 14-0 at the interval, the Simbas succumbed to a 45-7 loss to Namibia at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek on Saturday 29 July 2017.
After a feisty start by the Kenyans, it was the hosts who went ahead through David Philander with Clive Loubser converting for a 7-0. The match would a close contest but the Namibians punished a Kenyan error, Chrys Botha touching down with Loubser adding the extras for a 14-0 lead. The Simbas would take the game to the hosts towards the close of this half, failing to make use of their possession despite camping in the Namibian 22.
The Namibians extended their lead after the interval, Loubser landing an unconverted try for a 19-0 score before converting inside center J.C Greyling’s try for a 26-0 score.
The Simbas kept in touch, Moses Amusala barging over the whitewash with Darwin Mukidza converting to bring the score to 26-7 before the Namibians ran in 19 unanswered points through Philander, Cassy Viviers and Les Klim, Loubser drilling home two conversions for the 45-7 full time score.
The result saw the Simbas finish second in this year’s Rugby Africa Gold Cup behind the Namibians who retained the title.
