Shujaa have secured their most important cup quarterfinal qualification of the HSBC World Sevens Series after beating Wales 26-21 in their third Paris 7s pool match. South Africa’s 19-17 win over Australia also played a role in Shujaa’s Cup Qualification.
Wales took an early 14-0 lead against Shujaa through JJ Goodchild’s brace with EJ Davies adding both conversions. Jeff Oluoch found himself on the wing where he fended off his defenders landing Shujaa’s first try that kept them in the game, Wanjala added the extras for a 14-7 half time score.
Bush Mwale pumped his legs and swung to get past his tackler before racing down the pitch to land Shujaa’s second try in the match, Wanjala sure with his boots added the conversion leveling the scores to 14 a piece. Two offloads to Nelson Oyoo after Shujaa had opened up the Welsh defense line saw him cut through the defenders landing two quick tries with Wanjala converting one and missing the other for a 26-14 lead
Shujaa put in an exemplary performance in this match knowing very well that it held a lot in store for the side’s status in the HSBC World Sevens Series.
Wales were last to land a try through JG Jenkins with Luke Trehane adding the twos with a minute left on the clock. Shujaa held on to the five-point lead before an infringement by Wales in the last ten seconds saw Andrew Amonde kick the ball out securing the 26-21 win. They will play USA on 2nd June in the second cup quarterfinal kicking off at 12:50pm
