Shujaa wrapped up their CapeTown7s Pool stage registering two wins and one draw to finish second in Pool D.
They kicked off the tournament with a 24-19 win over Manu Samoa on day one before kick-starting day two with a much needed 12-7 win over Australia.
Vincent Onyala landed Shujaa’s first try in the match against the Aussies for an early 7-0 lead that was later watered down to a 7-7 draw as Joe Pincus went over for his side’s try. Lewis Holland leveled the scores at the breather. Alvin Otieno, who has been devastating with the ball hand was next on the scoresheet as he rampaged his way to the try line. Shujaa held on to the win despite shutting Aussie’s attempt to level the scores.
The third pool match ended in a 24-24 draw with Ireland scoring at the death through Jordan Conroy who went over for his brace.
Both sides traded tries in the opening half of the encounter through Hugo Lennox and Aaron O’sullivan going over for Ireland while Andrew Amonde and Vincent Onyala landed Shujaa’s double. Jordan Conroy landed his side’s brace in the second half enclosing Johnstone Olindi’s and Alvin Otieno’s tries. Billy Dardis and Daniel Taabu adding two conversions each for their sides.
Ireland top the pool as Shujaa finishes second booking a date with the top placed team in Pool A at 12:18pm EAT.
