Shujaa Finish Second in Singapore, Signaling Strong Comeback

Kenya’s Sevens wrapped up a spirited campaign at the Singapore leg of the HSBC Sevens Series with a runners-up finish, following a hard-fought 12-21 loss to Fiji in the Cup Final. The performance marks a significant resurgence for the team, throughout the weekend.

Shujaa got off to a bright start in the final, with Nygel Amaitsa pouncing on a loose ball and grounding it to open the scoring. He converted his own try to give Kenya a 7-0 lead early in the first half. Fiji responded with clinical precision, capitalizing on their speed and breakdown dominance to turn the game around.

Despite the pressure, Kenya stayed in the fight. In the second half,  Mwanji dotted down to add a second try for Shujaa, keeping hopes alive. However, it was not enough and saw them close out the match with a 21-12 win.

Shujaa’s journey to the final began with a commanding performance in the pool stages, where they topped their group with convincing wins. In the Cup Semifinals, they faced a determined Spain side in a tense contest. Kenya held their nerve and delivered a composed display, edging out the Spaniards 12-5 to book their place in the final.
