Having lost two matches in the CapeTown 7s pool stages; Shujaa dropped to the Challenge trophy quarters where they played Samoa in the first match of day two.

Samoa walked away with a 19-17 win over Shujaa which saw them drop further to the 13th place semi final. The side picked up their second win in the tournament as they beat Scotland 33-12; Tanga landed a brace as Oluoch, Oyoo and Ngethe dotted down a try each, with four of the five tries being converted successfully.

Shujaa booked their 13th place final slot where they met neighbor Uganda Sevens Cranes. Daniel Sikuta was first on the scorecard as he landed the first try with Tanga adding the extras. An infringement by Oluoch saw him visit the sin bin but once he got back into the action, his presence was felt as he ran past the Ugandan defense to land Kenya’s second try. Scores at half time read 14-0.

Come second half, Uganda scored two tries in quick succession leveling the scores to 14 all but their attempt to win the match was cut short as Ngethe and Oscar Ouma both scored tries extending their lead to 24-14 as the conversions were wide at Full Time.

The team is ranked 11th in the world series table and are in Pool B of the Sydney 7s come January 26th-28th 2018 alongside, Argentina, France and Wales.
