On 8th December 2024, the Kenya Rugby National 7s men’s team popularly known as Shujaa, claimed the 7th place title with a 32-17 victory over their opponents Great Britain.
Shujaa unfortunately fell 26-14 to Argentina in the Cape Town 7s, 5th place playoff match, confirming their 7th place playoff position. In-spite-of the initial day 2 loss, Shujaa was on a mission to reach maximum points possible, which they did when they faced Great Britain in the 7th place play-off.
Shujaa took the lead with a convincing 22-5 lead at the break with tries from co-captains George Ooro, Samuel Asati. Speed star Patrick Odongo was next on the scoreboard as he landed back to back tries in this match with Nygel Amaitsa converting Ooro’s try to give Shujaa the early 22-5 lead.
In the second half, Great Britain’s Matt Davidson landed an unconverted try for GB reducing the gap to 22-12 before Shujaa extended their lead through Nygel Amaista who dotted down two unconverted tries that enveloped Luke Mehson’s unconverted try bringing the full time score to 32-17.
