Rugby Powerhouses Schools Set to Fly Kenyan Flag at East Africa Games in Uganda
With the curtains drawn on the KSSSA Nationals, the rugby teams that will represent Kenya at the upcoming FEASSA Games in Uganda have been confirmed. Having showcased their prowess on the national stage, these teams are now set to take on the best from the East Africa region, from the 16th – 27th August 2024.
Girls’ 7s:
- St. Joseph Kitale
- Kinale Girls
- St. Theresa Girls
- Nyagichenya Secondary
These schools have proven themselves as the top contenders in girls’ rugby, with St. Joseph Kitale and Kinale Girls leading the charge. This having been the first time that the girls rugby is incorporated in the FEASSA games.
Boys’ 15s:
- All Saints Embu
- Butula Boys
- Kitondo School
- Lenana School
The Boys’ 15s category saw intense competition early this year during the 1st term Nationals games that took place in Machakos, which saw these four schools emerging as the dominant forces. They are now set to showcase their strength and tactical prowess at the East Africa stage.
Boys’ 7s:
- Bwake Boys
- Vihiga High School
- St. Mary’s Yala
- Kisii School
Bwake Boys come into the East Africa Games with momentum, having been crowned the 2024 champions of the KSSSA 7s Boys Nationals. Their journey to the title was nothing short of dramatic. In the pool stages, Bwake dominated Upperhill with a 12-5 victory but stumbled against Vihiga, losing 17-0. Despite the setback, they bounced back in the Cup Quarters, narrowly edging out Koyonzo with a 10-5 win. The semis saw them in a nail-biting encounter against St. Mary’s Yala, where they emerged victorious by a slender 3-point margin (10-7), securing their place in the final. In the final, Bwake overcame Vihiga with a 19-14 win, a result that sets the stage for an exciting match at the East Africa Games.
