Erick Ombasa, one of the standout players for the Menengai Oilers during their impressive 2017 National Sevens Circuit campaign makes his Shujaa debut after being included by Head Coach Innocent Simiyu in the squad to the Sydney and Hamilton legs of the 2017/18 HSBC Sevens World Series. Samuel “Smurf” Ng’ethe and Arthur Owira who debuted in Cape Town are again included for the trip down under while another debutante Herman Humwa misses out after featuring in Dubai and Cape Town. Collins Injera is yet to make a full recovery from a hamstring tear at the season opening leg.
Andrew Amonde, absent from the opening legs in Dubai and Cape Town has recovered from injury to make the travelling party which will be captained by Oscar Ouma in the absence of Oscar Ayodi who is recovering from a knee injury.
Simiyu, speaking to Kenya Rugby, said,” We have trained well and are sure that the players will give a good performance. Our key focus is to meet our set standards consistently. We have a few injuries which gives an opportunity for the young players who have earned the right to wear the jersey, to represent the country and keep the pride up there. We know they will make us proud.”

Currently sitting 11th on the series with 13 points off their two outings, Shujaa, who leave the country on Saturday20 January, have been grouped in Pool A for the Sydney Sevens with Argentina, France and Wales.
Meanwhile, the Kenya Rugby Union Board has commended the team’s management and players for how they have conducted themselves and the support they have given to the ongoing restructuring process within the organization.
