The curtains fell on the 2022 National Sevens Circuit with Menengai Oilers lifting the overall crown after eliminating defending champions and closest contenders KCB in Kakamega7s cup semifinal action at the The Bull Ring in Kakamega on Sunday 17 July 2022.
The 17-12 result saw Oilers build an unassailable lead, eventually closing out the circuit on 113 points, six clear of KCB who eventually claimed third place with a 21-14 victory over Strathmore to accumulate 107 points.
Geoffrey Okwatch landed two tries for KCB, Brian Wahinya converting as KCB took a 12-0 lead into the break.
Oilers returned a rejuvenated side in the second half, scoring three unanswered tries through Timothy Okwemba and Chrispine Shitundo who landed his brace with Geoff Ominde managing one conversion.
Meanwhile, Kabras Sugar would ensure that the circuit had a sixth different winner after they defeated Oilers 19-7 in the final.
Jone Kubu scored a try and converted Malik Habil’s effort to give Kabras a 12-0 lead before Geoff Ominde converted Timothy Okwemba’s try to bring the Oilers back to 12-7 at half time.
Kubu would then convert Brian Tanga’s try to seal the result for the sugarmen.
