In the #Madrid7s 5th place playoff, the Kenya Lionesses faced Spain and were first to cross the try line as Stella Wafula rounded her defenders and landed a corner post try, Philadelphia Olando’s conversion sailed wide giving them a 5-0 lead.
Their lead was soon leveled to a 5-5 score after Spain’s support play saw Ingrid Algar receive the offloaded ball from her teammate and she raced down to land her team’s first try. Their conversion also sailing wide. In the restart, Lionesses kept the possession and a very well-educated pass from Christabel Lindo to speedster Janet Okello saw her(Okello) head directly for a center post try. Unfortunately, the conversion was unsuccessful.
However, it was the Spaniards who had the last say in this first half after they intercepted a loose Lionesses pass and scored their second try with the conversion being successful. The scores at halftime read 12-10 in favour of the hosts.
In the second half, both teams matched in both defense and attack as they didn’t let their opponents get over the try line. Spain holding on to their 12-10 lead to full-time. This sees the Lionesses finish six overall.
