This Saturday, 26th April, the hallowed grounds of The Goan Institute in Pangani will witness a pulsating showdown as hosts Mwamba RFC take on Impala RFC in the finals of the 2024/2025 Kenya Cup Women’s League. A game more than just a battle for silverware.
For Mwamba, the stakes are nothing short of historic. Chasing a fourth consecutive title—a glorious four-peat—the reigning queens of Kenyan cup women are poised to etch their names further into the annals of the game. Their journey has been nothing short of imperious, having finished top of the table and steamrolled past NYS in the semifinals. This final, however, carries an extra layer of emotional gravity. It will be the inaugural match at Mwamba’s new home turf, and what better way to christen it than by lifting yet another trophy before a roaring home crowd? The pressure is high, but so is the promise.
On the other end of the battlefield stands a resurgent Impala RFC. Having finished sixth in the regular season standings, they have defied expectations and clawed their way into the finals with a commanding 28-8 triumph over Kenya Harlequin in the semifinals and they now stand on the cusp of claiming their maiden Kenya Cup title.
This encounter will also rekindle memories of past finals, notably the 2022 and 2023 editions where Mwamba narrowly subdued Impala 15-11 and 21-10 respectively. Those encounters were fierce, unforgiving, and left Impala thirsting for revenge. Now, with another shot at glory, the stage is set for them to either slay their perennial nemesis or fall once more at the final hurdle.
