The electric duo of Janet Okello anf Celestine Masinde went over the try line to land Kenya Lionesses winning tries as they beat Ireland Development 17-5 in the third Cup quarterfinal.
Okello who has been a try scoring machine this weekend registered her brace on the scoresheet while Masinde dotted won once. Flyhalf Grace Akulu managed to split the posts with one conversion as the other two were unsuccessful.
The ladies take on Tuks in the Cup semifinal.
Shujaa secured their solitary win of the 2019 Dubai7s as they beat Scotland 26-14 in the 13th place playoff.
Both sides put up a strong defense in the first five minutes of the first half but Shujaa’s physicality and persistence eventually broke the Scottish as Andrew Amonde’s offload set up Daniel Sikuta to land the first try. Daniel Taabu converted making it 7-0.
A infringement by Scotland in their half proved costly as Shujaa got the penalty, Vincent Onyala attacking the gap on the blind side. He would then side step an oncoming defender before making his way to land the second try under the posts. Taabu’s conversion making it 14-0 at the breather.
Johnstone Olindi and Alvin Otieno were next on the Shujaa’s try scorers lists. Olindi cut through Scotland’s defense as he went straight for the third try right under the posts. Otieno’s landed a corner post try as Shujaa punished Scotland on their error at half mark of the sevens stadium pitch. Jacob Ojee passed the ball to Otieno who was on his left and with no defender in sight, Otieno easily made his way landing Shujaa’s fourth.
Olindi’s and Otieno’s tries were Sandwiched by Scotland’s double that came from Sam Pecqueur and Harvey Elms.
Shujaa bowing out of this first leg with four points after finishing in the 13th position.
