The Lionesses started their campaign at the HSBC Sevens Challenger in Krakow, Poland with a 21-19 win over hosts Poland on Saturday 18 May 2024.
Natalia Pamieta’s try and Julia Druzgala’s conversion put Poland 7-0 up but the Lionesses responded through Naomi Amuguni, Sinaida Nyachio converting to tie up the scores, 7-7 at the break.
Nyachio then converted Sharon Auma’s try to put the Lionesses 14-7 up after the restart with Poland staying in touch, Katarzyna Pasczcyk touching down with Druzgala converting to level up matters, 14-14 as the match wore on.
Edith Nariaka, on debut for the Lionesses, scored late with Nyachio converting before the Poles scored a late unconverted try from Pamieta as Lionesses held out for the win.
