The Kenya Rugby Union, through the Honarary Secretary Oduor Gangla, has paid tribute to the late George Barbour. Mr. Barbour was the founder as well as Chairman of the South Coast Pirates.
In the Tribute, Gangla shared these sentiments;
“On behalf of KRU Board, I wish to convey our deepest sympathies to George’s family, friends, South Coast Pirates and all the partners involved with SC Rugby including the vast school rugby network that he has directly supported on his unfortunate and rather sudden promotion to glory.
George is a true stalwart of Kenyan Rugby and has made an immense contribution to the growth and development of the game not only in the coast but also in Nairobi and Kitale. As a capped international, he represented our country with great dignity and honour and always held true the values of the game we all loved. George has hosted many of us in Ukunda not just for Pirates but also for the famous Touch Rugby Tournament in July. We will certainly miss him and his contribution to the game and will celebrate his profound impact on the game and on all of us.
We wish to encourage you and the Pirates team to stand strong and remember all the great things George was able to do to touch our lives. Pirates does have the basic ingredients to play at the Kenya Cup and George has left a strong foundation for the club to grow and flourish.
