The Kenya Rugby Union held its third annual National Development Conference, themed ” The Challenge of Winning.” The one day conference took place on Saturday 14 July 2018 at the Strathmore University and featured presentations from KRU CEO Ronald Bukusi who spoke about the myriad challenges that come with growth and success.
Former Kenya international Charles Nyende, currently the Deputy Sports Editor at Daily Nation gave a presentation dubbed ” Rugby & Media” spelling out the potential and importance of cultivating a working relationship with the fourth estate.
Current Kenya U20 Head Coach Paul Odera took the participants through the strides his charges have made since 2015 and spoke about the way forward for the U20s in a presentation title ” Towards U20 – Process, then individuals”.
Kenya Lionesses international Sinaida Aura’s presentation focused on the challenges facing women rugby players in Kenya while 2016 SOYA Community Coach of the Year Felix Oloo gave insights into Nakuru Rugby’s famed development programs and activities.
The participants were also taken through a presentation on innovative ways to fulfill dietary requirements for rugby players by Kenya rugby great Professor Maina Muniafu. Paul Mutavi (Makueni) and Matayo Mwenesi (Vihiga) gave presentations on rugby in the counties while Bidco Africa’s Marketing Director Chris Diaz shared insights on sponsorship. Maina Ndirangu from Consumer Insight gave the day’s highlight presentation on rugby’s marketing potential.
