The Kenya Rugby Union Board of Directors held a breakfast meeting on 25th February at the Dusit D2 with several of the Union’s stakeholders. The essence of the meeting was to brief the various partners, parents, club chairmen and player representatives on where the Union is at in all aspects of the sport.
Chairman Oduor Gangla started the meeting by acknowledging the presence of the National Olympic Committee – Kenya who were represented by the Treasurer, Eliud Anthony Kariuki. “NOCK has been very instrumental in our National Sevens teams’ preparations during the Tokyo Olympics qualifiers in the last quarter of 2019 and this support saw both teams qualify for the tournament.
HACO Products through their Amara for men brand were also present. Last year Chipu won the Barthes Cup, a performance that attracted support from Amara and Hemmingways an addition to the already existing partnerships Chipu had with Peponi School and the Parents Association,” said Gangla.
The Kenya Simbas over the years has continued to receive support from Tusker Lager during their international fixtures. Tusker has also played a big role in supporting the National Sevens Circuit and the Safari Sevens.
Speaking at the breakfast, Eric Kiniti EABL’s Group Corporate Director said, “We’re really happy with what we’re seeing at the Kenya Rugby Union. For us, as a company is knowing what to do to ensure the teams are playing and fans will attend,”
Another key sponsor at the Union is Stanbic Bank who are the title sponsors of the Locals Sevens Circuit – Stanbic Bank National Sevens Circuit.

Kenya Simbas Head Coach Paul Odera shared his plans for the team as we prepare for the 2023 Rugby World Cup. “We have a wealth of players as a Nation and their hunger for the game is unmatched. All we need is to prepare very well for all our assignments and we shall be in the #RWC2023. Despite the challenges we face at the Union, my philosophy is that a solution can and will always be found as opposed to stagnating on the issue,” he said.
James Gachihi from Ernst and Young, Paula Lanco representative of Rugby Afrique commended the Union for the positive strides being made in making the sport better both on and off the pitch.
