November 9th 2024 was an action packed day for rugby fans at the RFUEA grounds as the day began with the Legends by Nondescripts taking on UK Tritons in a tightly contested match that ended 19-14 in favour of the Legends.The next game was a pre-season friendly between hosts Kenya Harlequins and KCB where KCB beat Harlequins 39-16.
The climax of the day was the encounter between Kenya Simbas and the Uganda rugby cranes in the opening leg of the 2024 Elgon cup.Griffin Chao was first to open the scoreboard with an uncoverted try putting the Simbas ahead by five points.Jeanson Misoga further extended the lead for the Simbas off a rolling maul.Timothy Omela put in the extras putting setting the scores at 12-00.
Uganda went over with two converted tries which put them ahead of the Simbas by two points heading into half time.In the second half ,Uganda were first to update the score board with a penalty kick which further extended their lead to 17-14.
Brian Wahinya was quick to retaliate with a try,Omela put in the extras putting the Simbas ahead by two points.Brian Wahinya secured his brace for the game almost immediately after working some magic with his quick feet of a scrum down.The conversion attempt by Omela was unsuccessful putting the score board at 24-17.Uganda narrowed the gap with an unconverted try with the scores standing at 24-22.The Simbas scored the last try of the game putting the scores at 27-22.Uganda attempted to catch up but the penalty kick was not enough to put them through.Centre referee Tinashe Kamwenje blew the full time whistle consequently crowning the Kenya Simbas the winners of the first leg of the 2024 Elgon cup with a narrow 27-25 win.
