The Kenya Simbas have proudly retained their Elgon Cup title after clinching victory in the thrilling second leg at Kings Park Bweyogerere in Uganda. The Simbas came out strong, with Ephraim Oduor powering over the line following a dynamic pick-and-drive move. Timothy Omela calmly slotted the conversion, giving the Simbas an early seven-point lead

Vice-captain Eugine Sifuna dotted down for the Simbas’ second try, extending their lead in commanding fashion. Omela’s accurate boot once again added the conversion, further solidifying the advantage. The Simbas continued to dominate, crossing for another well-executed converted try in the third quarter of the first half, bringing the score to a commanding 21-0 as they headed into halftime.

Alfred Orege’s yellow card in the closing moments of the first half appeared to give Uganda a glimmer of hope, as they started the second half with renewed vigor. The Ugandans mounted a spirited attack, but the Simbas’ defense proved impenetrable, holding firm under pressure. Uganda’s persistence finally paid off with a last-minute try, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide. The match concluded 21-5 in favor of the Simbas.

Having narrowly won the first leg 27-25 in a thrilling contest at the RFUEA Grounds, the Simbas were crowned 2024 Elgon Cup champions. The overall aggregate score across both legs stood at Kenya Simbas 48, Uganda 30.
