Kenya Rugby Union Hosts Grassroots to Global Workshop in Collaboration with ChildFund Rugby and Grassroots to Global

Over the weekend, Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), in collaboration with ChildFund Rugby and Grassroots to Global, successfully hosted a transformative workshop in Nairobi, bringing together women from across the country. This initiative is part of a broader global effort to harness the power of rugby for positive social change.

ChildFund Rugby partners globally to use rugby as a tool for social impact, empowering communities through sport. Grassroots to Global, is a flagship program under the partnership between ChildFund Rugby and World Rugby, and it is dedicated to fostering female leadership in rugby and beyond. The program provides a platform for female community leaders to build strong networks and drive meaningful change within their communities through the sport.

This marks the second time the Grassroots to Global program has been held in Kenya, with the first workshop taking place in September 2022. The workshop brought together 30 female participants from different regions of the country, reflecting a nationwide commitment to growing women’s involvement in rugby and leadership.

The workshop aligns with the broader celebrations leading up to the Women’s Rugby World Cup, England 2025, reinforcing the importance of gender inclusion and empowerment in the sport. Through this initiative, participants engaged in a series of training sessions, discussions, and networking opportunities aimed at equipping them with the necessary skills to drive social change within their respective communities.

Speaking on the impact of the workshop, Harriet Okatch – Commercial Director, Kenya Rugby Union, emphasized the significance of such programs in fostering inclusivity and leadership in rugby. “This initiative provides an invaluable opportunity for women from all over Kenya to come together, share experiences, and develop leadership skills that will not only benefit rugby but also their wider communities.”
