The 2024 Driftwood Sevens reached its grand crescendo on the 8th of September at the iconic Mombasa Sports Club, wrapping up an electrifying Day 2 brimming with intense rugby action. The day kicked off with the culmination of the Challenge Trophy and Main Cup quarterfinals, setting the stage for thrilling battles ahead.

Kabeberi Sevens finalists, Menengai Oilers, emerged as the dominant force in the Challenge Trophy quarters, delivering a commanding 24-00 shutout against hometown favorites Mombasa RFC. Mwamba RFC, too, asserted their prowess, overcoming Catholic Monks 22-14 to secure their place in the ninth-place semi-finals.

KCB were the first to qualify for the main cup semi-finals after a dominant 29-00 win against Nondies.Kabras sugar narrowly edged out Strathmore Leos 7-5 setting them up with long time rivals KCB in the semi-finals.The collated main cup quarters results were as follows:

TUM booked themselves a slot in the thirteenth place finals after beating Catholic Monks 05-00 in the semis.Nakuru also booked a slot in the thirteenth place finals by beating Mombasa 7-0.Nondescripts closely missed out in the fifth place finals after Strathmore edged them out 22-17.KCB and Harlequins met up in the finals after KCB beat Kabras 15-00 and Harlequins narrowly beat Blak Blad 7-0.All the results from the semi-finals were as follows:

In a thrilling series of showdowns at the Driftwood Sevens, Nakuru RFC narrowly outmaneuvered TUM Marines with a hard-fought 19-07 victory, seizing the coveted 13th place trophy. Meanwhile, Menengai Oilers displayed their resilience, overpowering Mwamba 14-00 to claim ninth place honors.

In an unexpected twist, Daystar Falcons defied the odds, pulling off a stunning upset against Strathmore Leos, securing a 12-07 win in the fifth-place final. Blak Blad delivered a dominant performance in the bronze match, triumphing over Kabras 22-10 to clinch third place.

In Division Two, Kabarak University finally broke their streak of near misses, emerging victorious after edging out NYS in a nail-biting 5-0 finale to be crowned the 2024 Driftwood Division Two champions.

The grand finale of the day saw Kenya Harlequins locked in an intense battle with KCB, but the Quins prevailed with a narrow 15-12 victory, securing the prestigious title of 2024 Driftwood Sevens champions after a pulsating contest.
