Kabras Sugar cruised into the 2024 Dala 7s final to lift the trophy with a 24-5 victory over their Rai Group counterparts, Menengai Oilers. Kabras took an early 17-0 lead in the first half through tries from Patrick Lumumba who dotted down a converted center post, a few minutes later in this half, Jackson Siketa and William Mwanji went over the whitewash to give Kabras the early lead.
In the second half, both teams landed a try each, Denis Abukuse going over for the Oilers with the conversion sailing wide while Siketa landed his brace to extend his team’s lead. Olela added the extras for the fulltime score to read 24-5. On their way to the final, Menengai Oilers saw off MMUST 29-14 while Kabras beat Kenya Harlequin 17-00.
Quins won the third place playoff match, KCB lifted the 5th place trophy while Strathmore and Homeboyz won the Challenge Trophy and 13th place trophy respectively.
Tournament semifinals
A 26-05 win for Homeboyz in the 13th place semifinal saw them book a date with Zetech in the final as Zetech stunned Kenyatta University’s Blakblad 12-7 to progress to the 13th place final. In a closely contested Challenge Trophy semifinal, The Leos beat Daystar Falcons 22-19 while Stallions beat Mwamba 17-10. In the fifth place semifinal, Monks lost 14-22 to Nondies while Nakuru lost 10-29 to KCB.
Cup quarterfinals
The cup quarterfinals were close contests in the first three matches as Menengai Oilers saw off Nondies 12-05, Catholic Monks lost 12-17 to MMUST in sudden death. Kenya Harlequins eased into their third consecutive semifinal with a 12-5 victory over KCB while Kabras vs Nakuru was the only high-scoring match as Kabras beat Nakuru 32-00.
Challenge Trophy quarterfinals
Day two of the 2024 Dala7s saw Homeboyz RFC, Kisumu RFC, Zetech Oaks and Kenyatta University’s Blakblad drop to the 13th place semifinals after they lost their challenge trophy quarterfinals. Strathmore Leos were superior in their match against Homeboyz beating them 17-12, the Daystar Falcons also confirmed their spot in the Kabeberi 7s with a 17-00 win over Dala7s hosts, Kisumu RFC.
A late try by Brian Mutugi secured Mwamba’s victory over Blakblad as he dotted down under the posts. Conversion sliced the uprights for the full time score to read 14-12 in Mwamba’s favour. The last Challenge Trophy quarterfinal saw Stallions narrowly edge Zetech Oaks 24-19.
