Rugby in Kenya has achieved a significant milestone in rugby medical training, with Jimmy Ondiege being accredited as the country’s first-ever Medical Trainer. Ondiege successfully completed the rigorous Trainer Course held at Loftus Park, Pretoria, from January 22 to 25, 2025.
The course, part of the World Rugby and Rugby Africa Training & Education (T&E) program, focused on developing trainers across different disciplines, including medical, coaching, and strength & conditioning (S&C). Ondiege now joins an elite group of only three accredited Medical Trainers in the region, with the other two based in Uganda.
Kenya was represented by two participants in the program: Dr. Jimmy Ondiege (Medical Trainer) and Richard Ochieng (Strength & Conditioning Trainer). His accreditation enhances Kenya’s rugby development by strengthening the expertise available in player welfare and high-performance training.
This achievement marks a crucial step in advancing medical support and athlete safety within Kenya’s rugby ecosystem.
