KRU through the Kenya U20 Management conducted regional trials on various days this December as they kicked off their preparations for Barthes Cup 2020.
The backs and forwards Coaches Kenny Andola and Mike Aung took charge of the first round of trials in Nakuru on 7th December which were followed by Paul Odera, Michael Owino and Billy Odengo heading to Embu on the 8th of December.

On 15th December, the third round of trials was held at the RFUEA Grounds where 82 players stood up to counted before Odera wrapped up in Kakamega and Kisumu with the last set of trials on Monday 16th December.

The selected players from all regions who impressed the technical team with their core skills, match fitness, and gameplay will now come together at the RFUEA Grounds on 5th January for the final trails session. They will be joined by the crop of 2019 Chipu players who are still eligible come 2020 after which a 40-man squad will be selected.
Chipu will participate in the Barthes Cup in 2020 at a date and venue to be confirmed by Rugby Africa. The tournament has traditionally been held in either March or April. If Chipu successfully defends their title, they will be Africa’s representatives at the Junior World Rugby Trophy to be held in Spain from September 14th -27th 2020.
Players are advised to come ready to show how well they can play the game of rugby and also display how they’re able to collaborate with players from diverse backgrounds. They should also submit the following documents on the day:
1. Original Birth certificate
2. Valid Passport. Please check the number of pages and expiry dates. (Or receipt showing you have applied for a passport)
3. Yellow Fever Certificate
4. Two passport pictures
