Director of Rugby Engages Junior Secondary School Players in Vihiga and Kakamega Counties

During the week of the Regional Championships, Kenya Rugby Union’s Director of Rugby, Paul Odera, conducted grassroots training sessions with Junior Secondary School players in Vihiga and Kakamega Counties as part of ongoing efforts to grow the game at the youth level.

The sessions were held at Tsimbalo in Mbale (Vihiga) and at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) in Kakamega. Participating schools were supported with rugby balls for both their boys’ and girls’ teams to enhance their training and development.

This initiative, led by the Kenya Rugby Union Development Officers under the guidance of the Director of Rugby, is part of the Union’s “Try, Play, Stay” program aimed at introducing and retaining young players in the sport. The donation of balls and training support comes at a critical time as schools gear up for the National Championships.

Additionally, the sessions formed part of the scouting process for the U15 15s program, as the Union seeks to identify and nurture future talent from the grassroots level. Kenya Rugby Union remains committed to developing rugby at all levels and ensuring that young players have the tools and opportunities to grow in the sport.
