Shujaa resumed training on Monday 6th January at the RFUEA Grounds after breaking for the festive season in mid-December.
The team landed back in the country on Monday 16th December from the Cape Town 7s where they finished seventh. They took the required ten days rest before having the two light sessions on 27th and 28th December whose main purpose was focusing on each player’s return to play protocol and check-ups on the players who had picked up knocks during the two outings. They took a week’s break and were back in session doing a lot of aerobic endurance runs on the 3rd and 4th of January 2020.
“We have mixed this week’s training sessions such that we have two high-intensity days and two mid-intensity days. The high-intensity days are Tuesday and Thursday while Monday and Friday are the mid-intensity days. We divided the days in this order because several of the players will be featuring for their clubs during the Kenya Cup,” said Coach Kevin Mwema.
He added that Mondays and Fridays are when they will focus more on the game plan and the set pieces.
Shujaa is scheduled to have a four day camp in Nakuru from the 12th to the 15th of January. This will help the team’s preparations for Hamilton and Sydney7s as they plan to have three sessions per day to fine-tune their gameplay.
The team is in Pool B of the #Hamilton7s alongside Dubai7s Champions South Africa, England and Japan.
