The Kenya U20 National Team (Chipu) has received a major boost of Ksh 4 million sponsorship from Luxury Hotel Operator Hemingways Collection ahead of the World Rugby U20 Trophy tournament set to kick off on 9th July in Brazil.

Chipu will be featuring in this specific tournament for the second time, the first one being in 2009 when Kenya hosted it at the RFUEA grounds.

Ross Evans, Hemingways Group Operations Director says the partnership is part of the Collections’ commitment in supporting and rebuilding rugby in kenya while marketing it to the rest of the world.

‘’Hemingways has been a strong supporter of rugby in Kenya since the 1970s when the Chairman Dicky Evans joined the Nondescript RFC.”

‘’This kit launch is the first sponsorship of a National team by Hemingways Collection and goes to affirm our commitment towards the growth of rugby,’’he added.

Speaking while receiving the kit, Kenya Rugby Union Director Mr. John Kilonzo expressed his gratitude towards the continued support and benevolence executed by the stakeholders.

“We would like to thank the Board and management of Hemingways Collection for the confidence they have shown in Kenya Rugby over the years, we are very honored and grateful for your support, “said Kilonzo

Mr. Kilonzo expressed his delight that the full kit included a wide range of sports gear including two sets of playing kits, leisure wear, tourist bags, back packs, agility poles, therabands, water bottles, training ladder among other things.

Hemingways collection has over the past years supported various rugby engagements including the 2018 Safari Sevens Champions, Samurai Sevens, in a bid to enhance hospitality and selling Kenya to the world.

Chipu will be traveling to Brazil on 4th of July after emerging as the 2019 Africa U20 rugby Champions.

Chipu will be Africa’s sole representative in the tournament.
