Shujaa kicked off their day one performance with pure grit as they took on USA in the second Paris 7s Cup quarterfinal. The side’s physicality in the first breakdown saw Johnstone Olindi dive over the whitewash under the posts, Michael Wanjala’s conversion adding the twos.
Jefferey Oluoch cut through The Eagles defense and headed for the try line, he then offloaded to Nelson Oyoo who scored Shujaa’s second with Wanjala adding the extras for an early 14-0 lead. The Eagles soon found their footing in the match after Stev Tomasin gave them their first try at the stroke of half time.
Second half, the Eagles narrowed down the gap to 12-14 after the spread the ball wide to find Kevon Williams at the wing, he raced down the 40m to score at the corner followed by a successful conversion. Despite their efforts, Shujaa’s defensive pattern was exploited by USA and they landed two successfully converted tries through Matai Leuta and Madison Hughes.
They proceed to the Cup semifinal while Shujaa drops to the 5th Place semifinal where they’ll meet the hosts, France at 3:39pm EAT.
