Shujaa fell 17-31 to France in their last London 7s Pool B match that saw them drop to the Challenge Trophy.
Shujaa kicked off their first half performance with a stellar performance as Bush Mwale and Captain Jacob Ojee went over the whitewash for an early 12-0 lead over France. Johnstone Olindi converted Mwale’s try but missed Ojee’s. The French however overpowered a very determined Shujaa to go over twice through Paulin Riva and Jean Pascal Barraque with Barraque converting Riva’s try. In the last play, Mwale landed a brace in the match, Olindi’s conversion sailing wide for the Half time scores to read 17-12 in favour of Shujaa.
Despite their defensive efforts in the second half, Shujaa were unable to hold off a slippery France who went over the whitewash thrice in the second half through Remi Siega’s brace and one from Stephen Parez with Barraque and Parez adding one conversion each.
Shujaa’s resilience at the London 7s was however noticeable through out the three matches on Day one. They book a date with Scotland in the fourth Challenge Trophy match that kicks off at 12:36pm. Shujaa finished third in Pool B while Scotland came in fourth in Pool C.
