Shujaa is through to the 9th Place final match of the Perth 7s tournament in Australia after beating USA 26-21 in the 9th Place semifinal on Saturday 25th January 2025.

On their way to the 9th place semifinal, Shujaa had suffered a 29-14 loss in the hands of New Zealand in the opening fixture followed by a narrow 21-14 loss to Fiji in Pool C to wrap up their day one action. On Day two of the tournament, the Kevin Wambua Charges kicked off the day with a 19-5 victory over Uruguay with three tries landed by Kevin Wekesa, Nygel Amaitsa and Patrick Odongo. Experienced fly-half Tony Omondi converted Wekesa’s and Odongo’s tries while Uruguay’s Tomas Etcheverry landed their sole try in the match.

In the semifinal match, Shujaa crossed over the whitewash four times through speedstar Patrick Odongo who landed Kenya’s first try, Co-Captain George Ooro scored a brace in this match. A grabber kick from Vincent Onyala bounced luckily to find a fast-paced Floyd Wabwire who nudged it a bit further, grabbed it and landed a center post try. Tony Omondi converted two of the four tries, Amaitsa converted one to bring Kenya’s total tally to 26. USA landed three converted tries for the full time score to read 26-21 in Kenya’s favour.

They will face New Zealand on Sunday morning at 9:14am EAT.
