The Kenya Rugby Union has unveiled a 9 member referees panel that will be responsible for the appointment of match officials for all KRU league fixtures and sanctioned tournaments. The panel is chaired by KRU Match Officials Administrator Vincent Maranga and includes KRU Director of Rugby Thomas Odundo, Godwin Karuga, Paul Weloba,Robert Dol, Lameck Ongati, Oduor Ngoche, Ian Amagola and Raymond Oruo.
The panel will be tasked with overseeing the grading,performance review and ranking of all match officials in Kenya and also recruit new match officials from clubs and schools in coordination with Kenya Rugby Union Regional Development Officers.
Other parts of the panel’s tasks will involve assisting the Kenya Rugby Union in the training and education of new match officials as per the training and development calendar and
? Monitoring the progress of the active match officials and offering guidance on personal growth in a
accordance to World Rugby’s Development pathway for match officials.
? Analyzing games for promising match officials set for growth.
? Setting up a Pre-Level One Referee Course to be certified by Kenya Rugby Union before attending the World Rugby Level One Officiating Course.
? Coordinating exchange programmes for match officials.
? Setting up high performance camps for both sevens and fifteens.
