Kevin Wekesa’s unconverted try was not enough as Shujaa fell to a 5-7 defeat to Japan in their final Los Angeles Pool C fixture at the Dignity Health Sports Park on Sunday morning.
Japan responded after the restart, Yoshiyuki Koga converting Koki Yakushiji’s try to seal the win in a match played in slippery conditions following intermittent rainfall.
The result sees Shujaa drop to the ninth place playoffs against Canada at 8.17pm on Sunday evening.
