The Kenya Lionesses fell 12-35 to the Russia Olympic Committee in their second Pool A match.
The halftime scores read 14-12 in favor of the Russians as they were first to go over the whitewash with two converted tries before Kenya’s Janet Okello landed the first try from deep inside our territory. She rounded her wingers to race down close to 70m dotting down right under the posts. Flyhalf Sarah Oluche added the extras for a 14-7 score.
From the restart, the Lionesses attacking line was in perfect form as they got the basics right, from passing to rucking. They gradually made their way to their opponent’s half and an infringement by the Russian’s at their 5m mark got them penalized. Okello did not hesitate to take the quick tap that saw her land her brace and Kenya’s second try. The conversion drifted wide at the stroke of halftime.
Despite the spirited fight and constant defensive efforts by the Lionesses, ROC managed to land three converted tries, ending the match with a 35-12 score in their favor.
The Lionesses take on Great Britain on Friday morning at 5:00 am in their last Pool A match.
