As the Kenya Rugby Union fine-tunes the final preparations for the U20 Barthes Trophy tournament taking place from 24th June to 4th July in Nairobi, Kenya, the Training and Education department lead by George Ndemi is currently overseeing the super week. The Union is currently having various courses under the supervision of various World Rugby Educators.
For the last seven weeks, the KRU Training and Education department has been having virtual educator courses taking place every fortnight with a total of 10 participants. Of the ten, four are medical attendees, two are Strength and Conditioning, another two are undertaking their coaching course while the last two are in officiating.
The final part of these educator courses is face-to-face sessions which kicked off yesterday at the Shallom Guest House and are expected to end today. The ten participants will practically deliver their courses for assessment today, 25th June under the supervision of five World Rugby trainers: Fred Ollows, Johnbosco Muamba, Abigael Munikwa, Dr. Michael Otieno, and Denver Wannies.
Each strand(Coaching, Officiating, Medical, and SnC) will have ten participants who will be trained by those who have been undergoing their educator courses.
Additionally, Denver Wannies, the Rugby Africa Regional Training Manager will co-deliver a Level 2 Strength and Conditioning course from 25th to 28th June at the Mash Park Hotel with Kenya Rugby’s Richard Ochieng. This is the second-ever course in East Africa, the first one was held in 2017. A total of ten participants have confirmed their attendance.
