The Sisimka Charity Cup that took place at the Nyayo National Stadium started with the Hidden Talent ladies facing off with Twiga RPS. The former emerged victorious beating Twiga 24-0. The second match saw a fully fit Impala Ladies team humble Mwamba ladies with their 22-5 win in this second encounter.
Twiga RPS and Hidden talent faced off one last time with Hidden Talent confirming that their victory was not a fluke.
The long-awaited men’s match kicked off at 4:00 pm saw the Kenya Harlequins take an early 3-point lead after Evin Asena drilled in the kick that was prompted by an infringement by Kabras RFC. Moments later, the swift Jone Kubu sliced through the Quins’ defense line and landed a center post try, the conversion however was unsuccessful. Kabras now leading 5-3.
A gradual buildup of phases deep into Quins’ territory saw the Sugar millers land a second through, this time through Hillary Odhiambo. Kubu’s foot was on point this time as he successfully added the conversion giving his side a 12-3 lead at the break.
The second half saw the Kakamega-based side score a total of 17 points while their opponents scored seven points. Derrick Ashiundu was the first to rampage past the Quins defense in the opening minutes of the second half with Kubu adding the extras for a 19-3 score. The Kenya Harlequins’ indiscipline saw them receive one red and one yellow card reducing their squad to 13 players in the field against Kabras’ 15.
Brian Juma and George Nyambua landed two unconverted tries for their sides before Dennis Muhanji scored the Quins’ first and only try of the match. Asena added the extras for a 29-10 full-time score in favor of Kabras Sugar RFC.
